Encore Minimising landfill

1 Poultry – Minimising Landfill

The Client

Interserve Paragon is an interior fit-out and refurbishment contractor that has sustainability as one of its key values. It was working in collaboration with 1 Poultry, an office space based in central London, to strip out and refit offices based over five floors.

The Challenge

The client wanted this project to meet all its sustainability objectives, including a reduced carbon footprint, minimal landfill and contributing to local economies and communities. Encore Environment’s initial audit identified a large amount of white goods and domestic items in excellent condition, as well as some 200 bags of builders’ sand that was surplus to requirement on site.

The Solution

Using the national charity database on Encore Environment’s unique ProjectDIVERT app, which diverts waste material from being placed in skips, Encore was able to locate a local charity and arranged delivery of the white goods and items. Encore then transported the builders’ sand to the construction departments of two local colleges – Lewisham Southwark College and Building Crafts College – to help students in their learning.

The Results

Interserve Paragon, working with Encore Environment, saw a 75.72% cost saving for their client, 1 Poultry. Carbon was also greatly reduced, making this a true success story for the construction industry.

“The department has been able to use these bags of sand to demonstrate quantities, ratios and how to lift bags of sand safely. This donation has helped the department in a lot of ways and the team and college are truly grateful. I hope we can work together in the future for the benefit of the learners and the department.”
