At Cynthia Spencer Hospice in Northampton, every effort counts in creating a peaceful and comforting environment for patients with life-limiting illnesses and their loved ones. Our team members Sophie and Laura had the opportunity to contribute to this amazing charity through Encore’s staff volunteering scheme.
Sophie and Laura joined forces with Dean and Robert, two dedicated retired gentlemen who volunteer at the hospice grounds every Friday morning. Their mission for the day was to clear an area of the Woodland Walk, to make sure patients and family members taking a stroll through the woods could enjoy the surroundings, free from the clutter of weeds.
The team worked really hard, collecting an impressive six tonnes of weeds and debris between them! Dean and Robert have a huge area of woodland to cover so they appreciated the help and were probably surprised at the Sophie and Laura’s enthusiasm and willingness to get stuck in!
As they worked, patients could be seen walking through the woodland, which was lovely to see. The team felt really happy knowing they were making a difference to the patients’ daily walks and overall experience at the hospice.
Laura said: “We’re very grateful for Encore’s Volunteering Scheme, which allows staff to step away from their desks and engage in meaningful community work. This experience has been so rewarding – it was hard work but there was lots of laughter and it’s not only restored our faith in humanity but really puts life in perspective.”
Cynthia Spencer Hospice continues to inspire us with their commitment to providing compassionate palliative care. We’re honoured to support their mission and look forward to future opportunities to make a difference.
