10 year anniversary

Encore Environment Celebrates its 10 Year Anniversary

The 10 year anniversary milestone marks a decade of growth, innovation and enterprise for the team at Encore Environment! Encore Environment was incorporated by Rachel Rowley and Gavin Pilcher in 2011, born out of an idea to challenge the status quo in the waste sector. Over the years, it has grown significantly in terms of services and in reputation which regularly sees it in the finalist line ups of the leading waste and construction awards in the UK!

In the beginning, Encore Environment took on several forms from recycling plastics and creating new products, to taking excess building materials and using these to train apprentices in various trades. Through conversations with contacts in the sector, an opportunity arose to provide waste management which led to Encore gaining its waste carriers license, insurances and a new strategy to take to market!

“We have always maintained a passion to be disruptive, challenging, ethical and transparent in an industry that welcomed none of it,” said Rachel.

“so… it has at times been a bumpy ride, but this has made us so much more resilient and driven. We are still amused when we look back and recall, at one point, we only had £3.10 to buy dinner, and still refer to it as a reminder of how far we have come!”

“We soon realised how we could do things better, in a more efficient way, saving our clients both time and waste costs, and adding social and environmental value which has ‘now’ never been more important. We are also so thankful to have had individuals along the way who recognised our ambition and gave us that chance to prove ourselves, especially in the early days.”

By 2017, Encore Environment had hit its first turnover milestone, and implemented a new IT system, new reporting infrastructure and launched ProjectDIVERT, a platform that has helped divert tonnes of waste to charities and organisations in need. Its database of charities, schools and social enterprises has grown to 1600 contacts and it has also stopped millions of tonnes of carbon from reaching the atmosphere. In addition, 2019 saw Encore Environment enter the education sector with its non-profit organisation, Waste Wise Kids, which helps primary schools educate children about waste, recycling and sustainability.

“Our focus was to develop a range of stable, scalable services for the construction industry, which then led to us implementing data driven technology to innovate them and launch social value initiatives. We have always been way ahead of the curve in this regard!”

“For years we have been providing our clients with an alternative method of waste disposal that stops waste reaching landfill, that helps the environment, saves carbon, saves on waste costs and really helps local communities.

“With the Governments of the world now focusing heavily on environmental targets of net carbon, circular economy initiatives and educating people about climate change, we feel like our approach has been right from the start!”

Encore Environment will be celebrating the 10 year anniversary with its team and clients with a number of activities and events to mark the occasion. This includes giving special thanks to its respected and valued staff, clients and key suppliers that have all helped drive the business forward throughout its journey.

“The future of Encore Environment is exciting with our key focus to continue our sustainable growth,” said Gavin. The initial lockdown, when construction sites were on hold, gave us the opportunity to review our business services and look at what could be improved.

“This resulted in our ‘Jasmine’ business plan being developed. It started as a summary jotted down on the back of a children’s colouring book, to a comprehensive plan for the next three years covering all areas including IT, people, marketing strategy, and business processes. A year on, and we are already ahead of our turnover projections. We are also in the process of streamlining ProjectDIVERT as a defined business process rather than just a value-add service, and also growing our Waste Wise Kids database of corporate members to drive the national roll out across UK primary schools.”

From the whole team at Encore Environment on our 10 year anniversary, we thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to the next 10 years!
