Project DIVERT: Morgan Sindall Imaging project donates office furniture to local charity

Morgan Sindall Construction’s Northern Home Counties division is currently building a £17 million state of the art Imaging Centre at Milton Keynes University Hospital. This expansion will significantly improve medical imaging treatment accessibility for local patients, providing two new MRI machines, two new CT scanners and six new ultrasounds.

As part of their on-going commitment to sustainability, Morgan Sindall Construction has implemented Encore Environment’s Project DIVERT, an innovative environmental and social value initiative to identify reusable items from the site and connect them with a local organisation in need, promoting a circular economy approach and making carbon savings. During the construction process, office storage items have been identified as suitable for reuse. Instead of disposing of these items through traditional waste routes, Project DIVERT has facilitated the connection between site and beneficiary and successfully donated these items to Spencer Contact, a local Christian furniture reuse charity in Northampton. This charity supports individuals in need by providing essential household items such as beds, sofas, storage and kitchen items.

With additional items identified for reuse, it is hoped more local organisations will benefit from Morgan Sindall Construction’s sustainable approach to construction waste. Rachel Rowley, managing director at Encore Environment said: “We are delighted with the successful Project DIVERT at the MKUH Radiotherapy Centre build.

By keeping these items in a closed-loop system, Morgan Sindall Construction has demonstrated how construction companies can integrate circular economy principles into their projects, creating positive environmental and social impacts while reducing waste and carbon emissions.”
