Paragon & Chapter Aldgate – Recycled Goods Benefit Charities

The Client

Interserve Paragon is an interior-fit out and refurbishment contractor that is committed to sustainability. It was working in collaboration with Greystar, a global leader in rental housing, on refurbishing properties to create Chapter Aldgate, which offers accommodation for 412 students in London.

The Challenge

The client wanted the refurbishment project to meet its key values regarding sustainability, reduced carbon footprint, minimised waste to landfill and contributing to local communities. Encore Environment’s on-site pre-refurb audit identified a large amount of fridges and microwaves, all in excellent condition.

The Solution

Using the national charity database on Encore Environment’s unique ProjectDIVERT app, which diverts waste material from landfill, Encore identified the Greenwich branch of Emmaus, a homelessness charity, as a suitable local recipient of the white goods and other items. Encore and Interserve Paragon arranged for the delivery of these goods direct to Emmaus’ community shop, only eight miles from Chapter Aldgate, where they were sold to help the homeless.

The Results

Interserve Paragon, working with Encore Environment, saw a 69% cost saving for their client Greystar, as well as achieving their own key sustainability targets and supporting local charitable projects.

“We pride ourselves on diverting on average up to 360 million tonnes of waste from landfill each year. It is thanks to like-minded organisations such as Encore Environment and Paragon that we can achieve this, all in aid of the homeless and our local communities.”
