The Client
Project 7 is a new-build and refurbishment contractor committed to high quality and best environmental practice. It was working on a strip-out project at the Hippodrome Theatre in London.
Encore provide environmental consultancy as well as waste management services across all of Project7’s sites.
The Challenge
The client wanted sustainability at the forefront of this project with reduced carbon footprint, minimal waste to landfill and contributions to local communities to be kept in mind at all times. Encore Environment’s initial on-site audit identified carpet tiles that were in excellent condition.
The Solution
Encore Environment’s unique ProjectDIVERT app utilised its special charity database to identify a suitable local recipient for the carpet tiles, only five miles away from the Hippodrome. They were delivered to the Children’s S.C.R.A.P Project, based in Hackney, which collects, stores and distributes clean, safe industrial waste to a variety of groups and charities in the community. Through this scheme, the carpet tiles found their way to a local children’s play group.
The Results
Project 7, working with Encore Environment, saw a 77.29% carbon saving by donating these carpet tiles rather than sending them to Material Recycling Facilities and landfill.
