ProjectDIVERT – RED, Harrington Gardens

 The Client

RED Construction are a well-established contractor working on new build and refurbishment projects in Central London and the South East. With a strong focus on community engagement they work primarily in the commercial, hotel, residential and care home sectors.

The Challenge

RED Construction began a project to refurbish over 200+ guest rooms together with pool, leisure and support facilities. Within the scope of their works there was a surplus of plywood identified, along with pallets and timber. They did not want the 4.35 tonnes of timber and 1.2 tonnes of plywood to go to landfill so they got straight in touch with Encore for a better solution.

The Solution

Using Encore’s ProjectDIVERT, supported by our hands on team of Waste Coordinators, we were able to arrange the logistics for the excess material to be collected and diverted to various outputs- a Community Timber project whereby wood is available to be sold to members of the public at reduced pricing and disposal avoided, a company who will repair and reuse the pallets, and finally a Construction College in London who will be able to use the timber for their students works and practice.

The Results

By identifying on-site materials that could be re-purposed and re-used, Encore supported RED’s dedication to waste reduction by achieving a 100% diversion rate.

What the college said:

Thanks so much for donating the plywood, they built a stage out of the plywood to be used for a learner party.
